Berlin is a city that has gone through devastation and continual reconstruction. District Mitte, which was originally situated in Eastern Berlin, has gradually turned into a growing art communitiy of the city. Sebastian Heiner is an artist born in Western Berlin. He has been living and working in Mitte in the last few years.
In April this year, Sebastian came to Beijing and encountered the East for the first time. This fresh environment and the sense of foreignness that it imparted on him have propelled him to produce a series of new paintings. In these works, hos sentiments towards the ancient and mysterious oriental culture and his constant thoughts of his country have come together. These paintings speak to the viewers in an abstract language with the flow of melody.
